As one way of enforcing pollution control regulations, the government of Malawi through the Minstry of Agriculture has ordered Presscane Limited to stop its operations in Chikwawa district and compensate the surrounding communities who have been affected by the company's effluent discharge.&nbsp;

The government of Malawi has launched a major climate programme known as SOFF Malawi project which is aimed at strengthening weather observation and early warning systems across the country. The project, worth about MK6.6 billion, is being implemented in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

Invest in large scale water projects including dams, boreholes and access to clean tap water for our people

Invest in biodiversity and ecosystem protection

Promote research on and implementation of climate-smart agriculture technologies and resilient practices

Intensify Wildlife Conservation in protected areas of Nyika, Vwaza, Kasungu, Lengwe and Mwabvi and sustain Majete, Liwonde and Nkhotakota game reserves

Ensure deployment of Environmental Officers in all councils to conduct Environmental Impact Assessments and assist in mitigating the impact of disasters in both urban and rural areas of the country

On 16 January, 2026, the government of Malawi launched the tree planting season for the year, under the theme &ldquo;Trees and Forests for Community Resilience.&rdquo; Following the launch, Ntchisi District Council also officially inaugurated the district's Forestry Season with a tree planting initiative at Ntchisi Rain Forest Reserve on 31 January, 2026, with Kasungu following suit on 1 February.&nbsp;
