Malawi Deputy Minister of Homeland Security boasts of firing teargas at MCP members and former president

During the celebrations in remembrance of Malawi's first president, Kamuzu Banda (Kamuzu Day), the Malawi Police fired teargas on Malawi Congress Party (MCP) supporters, including the former president, Dr Lazarus Chakwera, to deter them from visiting the Kamuzu mausoleum in the nation's capital. The deputy minister of Homeland Security acknowledged having ordered this action, linking his decision to the atrocities he suffered under the MCP government. This act by the Deputy Minister does not align with the government's promise of restoring the independence of the Malawi Police Service
