The South African Police Service conducted high-density Operation Shanela operations across the Eastern Cape, resulting in the arrest of more than 1,100 suspects and the recovery of 42 unlicensed firearms. The operations included visibility patrols, roadblocks, stop-and-search operations and vehicle checkpoints aimed at disrupting criminal networks and combating serious and violent crime.

Additional allocations include R241 million for departmental operations, R111 million for the Commission for Gender Equality, and R46.5 million for the National Council on Gender-Based Violence and Femicide. These resources will support policy implementation, legislation, advocacy, monitoring, evaluation, research, coordination and partnerships across government and society.
